Biography
The Startup Artist (Emily Burg) is an emerging abstract expressionist artist, award-winning writer, and inveterate problem solver inspired by the women painters of the New York School of the 1950s. Her practice is to paint a canvas, to repaint it, and then to repaint again, primarily with acrylics, in fulsome colors producing visceral, immediate conceptual works with multidimensional, intermixed landscapes of texture, luster, patina, and viscidity.
The artist, who is self taught, came to her practice after a career in business and finance. She has a lifelong love for and deep historical and critical knowledge of art, for which she credits her third-grade teacher’s introduction to the Impressionists. Originally from New York, she lived in London and Sydney before moving to Los Angeles, where she paints on an easel in the corner of her living room.
